Summer in full swing as the Club holds Junior Summer Party


Oakham Tennis club held its junior summer party on Sunday 11th June. Nearly 30 juniors attended the event which with juniors of all ages having an afternoon packed full of fun and Tennis. This event was held as a way to promote more Tennis for members and non members of the club. Oakham Tennis club has had a big surge in juniors over the last year with more than 150 juniors a week having coaching, playing Team Tennis and enjoying the benefits of what is on offer at the club.

Junior organiser Lisa Hornsby said that the event was fantastic and shows what a long was the club has come in recent months. The more we can offer at the club means it gives more opportunities for even more players to get involved with Tennis in the local area.

Oakham’s Juniors have completed a long season of matches with great success. With more teams than even before, Oakham juniors took part in team events ranging from ages under 8 to under 18. Many of these teams have gone unbeaten all season and are waiting on final standings due to other clubs still having to play matches in the Leicestershire league. Head coach Dan Potter said it’s been a fantastic season for the juniors playing in competition. Many of the juniors are very committed playing up to 3 times a week and travelling long distances to gain Tournament and Team competition experience.

Oakham’s latest junior success was the Under 12 boys who have only lost one match all season. Ben Greening and his partner Josh sennet won both of their singles and doubles against Stoney Stanton Tennis Club, with Harry Moulton and Ethan Riordan taking their doubles but narrowly missing out on the singles wins.

Oakham will now prepare for a long summer of individual based competition leading into the Leicestershire winter league when they will go again in all of the age categories.
