Dear Member

I would like to welcome you to Oakham Tennis Club for the 2012/2013 year. We are a friendly tennis club with members of all ages and abilities. We endeavour to provide tennis from a friendly social game to competitive matches. Our excellent coaches can provide private lessons, where the work can be more focused and intense (!) or group lessons, where there is the opportunity to meet other players.

We have held membership fees for the past four years (main categories) and now feel a small increase is necessary to cover expenses and meet rising costs.

We have reapplied for planning permission for floodlights on three courts and this has been agreed at the first stage. This is tremendous news and will secure the future of the Club. We are presently working hard to get through the next stages of the process and will keep you informed of developments via our website.

Mix-in Sessions:

Monday 09.00 – 11.00 Informal mix-in all year (weather permitting)

18.00 – 20.00

Thursday 09.00 – 11.00 Informal mix-in all year (weather permitting)

19.00 – 21.00 Ladies’ doubles & men’s doubles team practise

For members who wish to play in teams

Sunday 10.00 - Informal mix-in

Starting 16.00 – 17.30 Junior afternoon. Please contact Catherine Drury 01664 474 675

The Committee have decided that juniors may join the mix-in sessions if they have reached the appropriate standard. They will usually have attended the junior coaching sessions and the decision will be made by their coach.

Commencing week beginning Monday 26^th March. Men meet on Tuesday, Ladies meet on Wednesday, commencing18.00.

Club Open Week

The club is holding a FREE Open Week from Monday 7th through Sunday 13th of May. Players of all ages are invited to join any of the relevant sessions running throughout the the week at no charge. Oakham Red Tournament Success

On Thursday 12th April Oakham hosted a Mini Red tournament. Players attending included players from Leicester, Thrapston and some local stars. The eventual winner was Josh Sennett (centre) from Oakham who won 7 out of 8 matches. Eoin Muris ( left), despite having beaten the eventual winner, finished 3rd with 5 wins and Jenna Davies finished as top girl with 3 wins. All 3 are coached
here at Oakham Tennis Club and attend Performance Coaching with Dan Potter on a Monday after school. All have been playing for 2 years plus and started at the club on a Thursday after school, where places are available to anyone who is interested. Please ring Dan on 07866 433605 for more information or to book a place.

Richard Wilson, Tournament Organiser said ‘The standard was very high and the Oakham players adapted their games well.’

Oakham’s Ana Webber has a Happy Easter

Oakham’s Ana Webber won the 14U girls’ singles title in the Grade 3 Easter Anglia Junior Open over Easter. Having a bye in the first round, she progressed through 3 further rounds before eventually winning the match against the number one seed in the final.

Ana then went on to compete in the grade 3 Cambridge LTC Easter tournament where once again she progressed to the final. This time she lost to the number 1 seed in a hard fought match, so came away with the runners up trophy.

Both events attracted players from various counties throughout the UK.

In addition, 14 year old Ana competed in her first Tennis Europe event at Nottingham Tennis Centre. She gained acceptance into the qualifying draw and progressed through to the final round before unfortunately losing out to the number 1 seed.
